HAMTRAMCK’S PRCUA GWIAZDA DANCERS

Accepted To International Dance Festivals in Macedonia

HAMTRAMCK, MI – April 23, 2024 – The PRCUA Gwiazda Dancers proudly announce their acceptance to the Festival Days in Ohrid and to the International Festival “Struga Fest” both to be held in the Republic of North Macedonia.  The Gwiazda Dancers will travel to Macedonia to participate in these two Festivals which will be held from July 18 – July 24, 2024. Gwiazda’s acceptance from the festivals organizers marks Gwiazda’s first international performances since their appearance at the 10th World International Children’s Folk Festival in Iwonicz Zdrόj, Poland in 2018.

Organized by the MIOFF Festival Organization and the European Association of Folklore Festivals respectively, these festivals bring together folkoric groups from around Europe and the world with an idea of preserving national and cultural heritage.  While participating in these Festivals, Gwiazda will appear in several parades, give several performances and have an opportunity to experience the sites and culture in and around Ohrid and Struga.

“To say that Gwiazda is excited is an understatement,” said Jessica Urban, Gwiazda’s director.  “We are so excited to provide this opportunity for our dancers to perform and celebrate their Polish and American heritage at these international recognized festivals in Macedonia.  This would not be possible without the support of the entire community of Hamtramck and beyond, the Polish Roman Catholic Union of American, as well as the commitment of the parents and the dancers to hours of practicing and exceptional fundraising.  Thanks and congratulations to the dancers, the parents and families, our choreographer, Basia Nowakowski, and all the officers of the group.  It could not be done without you!”

The PRCUA Gwiazda Dancers are thrilled to represent the United States, the State of Michigan, the City of Hamtramck, and the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America at the Festival this summer.
