Michael Wilk, a devoted family man and pillar of his community, is a man whose life has been defined by service, dedication, and strong values. Married to Christine Pyzik Wilk for almost 60 years, Michael has built a loving family centered around his wife and three sons: Michael Jr. (Fiancé of Karen Tornas), Paul (husband to Michele), and Robert. His legacy extends to his grandchildren—Paul Jr. (husband to Rachel), Joshua (husband to Meghan), Carly, and Andrew-and even to his great-grandchildren, Charlie and Emme.
Born into a large family, Michael is the brother of Anthony, James (deceased), Kathryn, John, and Edward, each of whom has shaped his understanding of family and community. This sense of togetherness has been at the core of Michael’s life, both personally and professionally. A respected leader, Michael has played an active role in a wide range of community organizations. He became a member of the Order of Alhambra, Malaga Caravan #188 in the late 1970s and currently serves with Sancho Caraan #261. His involvement doesn’t stop there; Michael is also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, the Hamtramck Moose Club, and the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. Additionally, he is actively engaged with the Polish American Congress and the Michigan Funeral Directors Association, where he has made lasting contributions to his profession and community.
Michael’s deep commitment to preserving Polish heritage and fostering community bonds is reflected in his numerous memberships, including the Polish Sea League, the Municipal Treasurers Association, and both the Polish Century Club of Detroit and the American Polish Century Club of Sterling Heights. His leadership extends to his role as President of the John W. Smith Old Timers Club, as well as his service on the Board of the National Polish Sports Hall of Fame. He also sits on the Board of the Michigan Funeral Directors and chairs the Hamtramck Goodfellows, among many other leadership positions.
As a dedicated businessman and public servant, Michael’s professional journey is equally impressive•. He has been the owner of the Jurkiewicz & Wilk Funeral Home in Hamtramck for many years, offering his services with compassion and care to families in need. Michael has also served as the part-time Treasurer and Public Safety Director for the City of Hamtramck. His long-standing involvement in education is notable as well. Michael spent 25 years as a faculty member in the Wayne State University Mortuary Science Program, helping shape the future of funeral service professionals.
A devout member of the Catholic Church, Michael is actively involved in both Our Lady Queen of Apostles Parish and Saint Florian Parish, thereby further grounding his life in faith and service. His passion for service, family, and faith has made him a respected figure in Hamtramck and beyond.
Through his work, his community involvement, and his love for his family, Michael Wilk has left an indelible mark on the lives of all who know him. As he receives this well-deserved award, we honor his legacy of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
