ORCHARD LAKE, MI- The Polish Mission of Orchard Lake Schools, the Polish American Congress Michigan Division and Consulate General of the Republic of Poland cordially invite you to view the Katyn Forest Massacre. Politics. Morality Exhibition. The opening of the exhibition took place at Polish Mission’s Chopin Evening Gala on Saturday, August 21, 2010 in the Adam Cardinal Maida Alumni Library located at 3535 Indian Trail, Orchard Lake, Michigan (on the campus of Orchard Lake Schools).  Katyn Forest Massacre. Politics. Morality is on display in both the Adam Cardinal Maida Alumni Library and the Hamtramck Public Library, located at 2360 Caniff, Hamtramck, Michigan till August 31, 2010.

Katyn Forest Massacre. Politics. Morality tells the story of the 1940 Katyn Forest Massacre, where 22,000 of Poland’s elite officers were executed during World War II by the NKVD Soviet Secret Police. The massacre was part of Stalin’s policy to liquidate the Polish intelligentsia. This location is also the site of the April 2010 catastrophic plane crash that killed President Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria Kaczynski and 94 of Poland’s elite.

Katyn Forest Massacre. Politics. Morality was prepared in cooperation with the Polish Embassy in Washington, D.C., the Kosciuszko Foundation of New York and Council to Protect the Memory of Combat and Martyrdom in Poland. It was first viewed in the Library of Congress and in the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington D.C., and since then has travelled to Toledo and Minneapolis. It is scheduled to appear in Chicago, Buffalo, Cleveland, Atlanta and a number of other U.S. cities.
“It (Katyn) is not just a place where 22,000 Polish officers and intellectuals were murdered as this exhibition so powerfully reminds us, it is also now the site of a catastrophic accident that wiped out a generation of important Polish figures,” said European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso at the opening of Katyn Forest Massacre. Politics. Morality Exhibition. “It is a particularly bitter irony that this terrible tragedy also claimed the life of the organizer of this exhibition, Mr Andrzej Przewoźnik. As a result this exhibition, a tribute to the victims of the Katyn massacre now also becomes a fitting and moving memorial to him and to all those who died while trying to keep memories of this terrible event alive.”
The Adam Cardinal Maida and Hamtramck Public Libraries are open Monday through Friday from 9 to 5 p.m., with the Hamtramck Library open till 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
